Post subject: Comic Convention...? |
|
|
I really want to go to Comic Convention. I'm in a shitty area for cons and the big cities around me (NYC, Montreal, etc) are too expensive to spend a couple of days in. Also I can't go this year because I've got a lot of plans this summer.
SO. I'm going to try and make it to SPACE (Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo) in Columbus, Ohio April 18th-19th 2009. I've got a year to plan it, to formulate my strategies and to find someone to go with me.
I'll keep you updated.
BTW, I don't plan on having a table because they're expensive and I want to walk around. I'll be the nerdy chick walking around carrying cards plugging GF.
...oh yeah.

::shifty eyes:: You'll be in ... da da DUMMMM ...the midwest!! =D
Sometime when I'm not so terribly lazy, I'll have to look into whether or not I could have fun at said Con...and maybe we could meet up!
Other than that, I think beginning your plans this much in advance is a very good idea. Gives you time for stuff. And other stuff.
Wow...I'm really out of it tonight...sorry about that. lol |

Well, um, considering I'm nowehere near the midwest (going to see Brokeback Mountain, eh? Eh?), I wish you luck on future comic-con endeavors.
However, I had no idea having a table at a con is expensive. Really? I mean, that seems kind of weird to me. I thought you brought you comic, your table, and plop! sign autographs or draw or whatevers. Kinda like nomads. |

I....don't get the Brokeback reference... ::scratches head::
And yes, if comic cons are anything like anime cons (and I'll wager they are), there is a limited amount of space in the "artist alley" type rooms, and you have to pay for the right to use some of that space. They can't have people just clogging hallways and atriums of the hotels/convention centers with their tables...fire hazard and all that. Not to mention, the convention has to make money from its vendors and artists in order to pay for the costs of hosting the con itself: hotel/convention center rental, staff, tables, chairs, planning and layout, water coolers, flyers, advertising, website, communications, walkie talkies, stage setup & sound systems (for the larger hall presentations), paying the "special industry guests" for coming plus their food & travel costs & lodging & etc etc etc. Ticket admission prices can't cover that completely.
I think some people inevitably do just set up like nomads in certain areas...especially if a table has been vacated. But if they are caught by convention staff, they are usually punished. Either by being made to just pack up and vacate the area, or by having their tickets/passes/badges revoked.
