Yes the penguin movie or one of them that came out that year. Man, what's up with penguins all of a sudden? They're like the Lindsey Lohans of the bird world...
Anyway, I just subscribed to Netflix so I'll be reviewing movies as I get them (most of them the cartoons people wouldn't go see with me). Get used to it. My first movie was "Happy Feet".
For the two people other than me who didn't watch it, it's a movie about an emperor penguin who finds he can't sing, which is the only way for emperor penguins to find a mate. But he can tap dance and he's got spunk or pluck or something. What makes this movie different from any other "cast out" movie (which ends with the main character proving to the others that he/she is worthy of their praise and attention) is that this penguin, Mumbles, has a mission. He doesn't just come home crying for attention, but he's out to find the cause of the famine the animals of the arctic are suffering. This was not made clear in previews and so I was surprised.
This movie has so many strange hidden veins. It's anti-Christian/old people, that's for sure. I don't care, I'm just saying...It's there. There's the gratuitous "humans are bad" storyline going on, of course. But most of all, I saw that Mumbles wasn't just some normal character that the "popular" characters didn't care for (read: the pretty girl wearing glasses and pigtails). He was honestly disabled. He never lost his baby feathers, he's too happy and doesn't seem to get a clue. This seems harsh, sure, but this is the internet. If I was meaner, I'd say that "Happy Feet" is the feel-good family movie about anti-religious dancing penguins led by a retard. But I'm better than that, aren't I? : D
I did like the movie. I cried a couple times but that might've been my female bits and the coffee getting to me. You could relate to Mumbles except you realized that he never gave up, you did. We all feel cast out and ignored and retarded at times. Only a small percentage actually ARE, though, the rest of us are just sentimental emotional wastelands.
Well if you haven't seen it yet, go see it. Or get Netflix.
Next time: "Ratatouille"
