Ah! My Goddess! Vol. OneAh!
Netflix is now being used to feed my insatiable need for animations that nobody will watch with me. I got into the series sets now. Starting with "Ah! My Goddess!" I only put the first volume on my list in case it was a dumber version of Tenchi Muyo.
The plot is about Keichi (sp? who cares...), a short, abused, ill-fated, trodden-on college student. After a night of being given a list of chores, he accidentally calls a phone number, summoning a goddess. She shows up telling him that, due to his life of bad-luck and misfortune, the celestial forces have seen fit to give him one wish.
In his fit of sexual frustration...I mean...flabberghasted idiocy, he wishes that she would stay by his side for all time. The wish is granted and he's got his own personal Jesus. Anyone that tries to separate them is met with great consequences.
That's the overall plot. The volume was about her appearance, him getting kicked out of his dorm, finding a place to live with her and then the college bitch...er...popular girl getting her panties in a knot over the "new popular foreign girl".
The first episode upset me. The dorky goddess Belldandy didn't even show up until the last 45 seconds of it. It was all: "I'm a poor pitiful college student" and "I'm a disembodied celestial voice saying deep things...oooo...". But once one got over the hump it was okay.
EXCEPT FOR BELLDANDY'S VOICE. OMFG, what is up with voice actors? If you strung her "yes"s together, you could make a porno, seriously. That was the only big problem I saw with the characters. Keichi IS awful pitiful, but he's loveable. He's a terrible cliche, though. The awkward, befuddled "oh noes I falled down" anime boy, you know. And the college princess is obnoxious, but she isn't trying to get into Keichi's pants because of some "forbidden love" or "I suddenly find you attractive" attitude. She's just a bitch. Which is fine. It's nice to have a through-and-through bitch in a series.
It was different, for sure. There weren't a lot of "oops I fell in your lap and touched your boobies" moments which I can live without. It's a series for girls and boys who want to get laid by watching it with girls. Chances are, if you have a vagina, you'll like this series.
I'm putting Volume Two on my list. Let's see where my expectations go.

Oh good, I might actually want to watch it sometime then. I had previously been under the impression that it *was* one of those "oops I fell into your lap and touched your boobies", panty-shot cornucopia of a title. And now I know it's not.
