Not another princess movie.
I don't like princess movies ESPECIALLY Disney princess movies. The plot always seems to be: harassed naive girl has dream - some mishap happens dropping the opportunity into her lap - when she's sure of herself some bad guy comes along to sweep out her feet - girl rallies friends and "inner strength" - villain falls to their death. Eh and somewhere in there she meets a boy who she either plays "whut's buggery?" or hard-to-get with.
I was led to believe this movie was a spoof on princess movies. And since I'm a fat unhappy bitch who is jealous of princesses of COURSE I want to see them land squarely on their faces on rough cement. However, it was a little of a let-down.
The summary is: a princess (a cartoon princess, yes the first few minutes are animated) who is about to marry a prince and usurp the throne from the wicked queen is tossed by said queen into the real world and, where else?, New York City. The actress plays the cartoon princess WELL. I'll give her that. She acts just like a ditzy animated princess. Eventually the prince, the mouthy-obligatory animal creature, and the queen's assistant all end up there chasing down the vacuous female. With the help of a cynical divorce lawyer, the princess must learn how to cope in NYC while her prince is on his way to find her.
There were a lot of spoofy moments. Like the fact that she cuts dresses from curtains in the most idiotic way and when she calls her animal friends all she gets are pigeons, roaches and rats. But to make it a perfect spoof, I would've preferred the two main characters NOT to fall in love and have a perfect romance and everyone gets married and OH ISN'T LIFE FULL OF HOPE AND JOY!! <3

As a spoof, it failed. But it isn't a typical princess movie because the girl isn't filled with hope and challenge, she gets pumped full of doubt and uncertainty.
I'd say if you're going to do a girly girls' night, go ahead and rent it, but it you're heading to a grumpy singles bitch-fest, pick up Evil Dead or something.
Next Week: "The Point" - the movie you've never heard of.
